Len Borhart

Founding Partner

Len began his career in public accounting in 1975 upon graduation from the University of Illinois with Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  After 14 years with a national public accounting firm, including 7 years as an audit and consulting partner, Len founded Borhart Spellmeyer & Company (BSC) in 1989.  For 27 years Len led the firm as managing partner, as well as a client service partner specializing in construction and manufacturing, until selling the firm in 2016.

Over the years, Len became a trusted advisor to many family owned business clients; often consulting on topics such as estate planning, investment strategies and other related financial services.  As these opportunities multiplied, Len guided the partners of BSC in developing a strategy for the delivery of a full suite of wealth management services.

Len did not believe the traditional commission based business model based on product sales properly reflected the firm’s values or vision.  Eventually Len was introduced to Wall Street veteran John Chapman and the goal of a sophisticated client centric solution took hold.  John possessed significant wealth management experience and had enjoyed an esteemed career in senior management on Wall Street.  Soon Len and John, along with the support of the firm’s partners, launched BSC Private Wealth Management, LLC in 2006.  The firm would go on to become a premier provider of advanced investment and wealth management services.

Upon the sale of Borhart Spellmeyer & Company in 2016, BSC Private Wealth was rebranded Clearwater Capital Partners and is now headquartered in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  As a senior partner of the firm, Len now concentrates his efforts on the continued growth and development of Clearwater Capital.  He is a member of the firm’s board of directors and is deeply involved in strategic management functions.   Len also provides consulting services to select business enterprises.

Len lives in Huntley, Illinois with his wife Anne and enjoys their two daughters and 4 grandchildren.  Over the years, he has served on a variety of civic organizations and was a charter board member of the Huntley Area Jaycees, as well as the Huntley Area Library.  He previously served as a commissioner and officer of the Huntley Park District and a board member of the St Joseph Hospital Foundation in Elgin, Illinois.  Len is currently an active board member of several family owned businesses.
