Al Krause
Founding Partner
Al Krause is a Partner and the Chief Financial Officer of Clearwater Capital Partners. With nearly 30 years of experience in public accounting, Al is responsible for the firm’s financial reporting, capital management, and risk mitigation. Al is a member of the Investment Policy Committee and provides senior leadership relative to the strategic direction of the firm.
Al has been in public accounting for nearly 30 years and began his career with the U.S. General Accounting Office where he focused on the financial aspects and operational effectiveness of many government agencies and programs. While working at the GAO, Al was awarded several certificates of distinction for his innovative analysis of complex governmentally funded projects. Al eventually moved to the private sector and joined the accountancy firm Grant Thornton.
Al became Partner of Borhart Spellmeyer & Company in 1995 and was an integral part the firm since it’s inception in 1989. He was responsible for a multitude of client relationships where he serves individuals, families, businesses, non-profit organizations and private foundations. Al’s areas of industry expertise include manufacturing, real estate development, construction and distribution. He spends significant time overseeing the audit disciplines of the accounting firm and is proficient in corporate tax, personal tax planning, compliance, and business consulting.
Al earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and finance from the University of Illinois - Chicago in 1984. He went on to earn a Master’s of Science in Taxation from DePaul University in 1999. Al holds a Series 65 license and is an investment advisor representative of BSC Private Wealth Management. He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Al lives in Geneva, Illinois with his wife Kelly and their two daughters. He is board member of the Education Center for Development Resources, the Houlihan Clan Foundation, and serves as an advisor to the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Al was formerly the treasurer of the Elgin Rotary Club and served a six year term with his church finance council holding the positions of vice chairman and chairman during his final two years.
