Position Summary
The Retirement Plan Advisor plays a dynamic role in supporting Clearwater Capital Partners’ institutional retirement plan clients while leading business development efforts and managing the day-to-day needs of their client relationships. This individual is responsible for cultivating new business opportunities, developing trusted relationships with prospective clients, expanding strategic relationships with centers of influence, and delivering ongoing strategic guidance and exceptional client service to retirement plan sponsors. The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven professional who combines business development expertise with a commitment to helping organizations build retirement plans that support their employees and long-term objectives.
As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), Clearwater Capital Partners has enjoyed significant growth since its founding in 2006. As the client base and team has grown, the design to further support and expand the retirement plan business with a Retirement Plan Advisor is necessary.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, cultivate, and pursue new retirement plan opportunities through direct outreach, networking, leveraging existing relationships, and participating in industry and community events; build and nurture prospect pipelines to support consistent business growth.
- Prepare and organize materials for service and recordkeeping platform proposals.
- Deliver prospect presentations to potential clients.
- Conduct retirement plan prospect research, evaluate opportunities, and review proposals with the Director of Retirement Plans.
- Support Wealth Advisor business through ongoing education and training initiatives.
- Manage the conversion process for new plan business and communicate progress to plan sponsors.
- Maintain and update the CRM and client records.
- Oversee and monitor a portfolio of Qualified and Non-Qualified plans, providing needed oversight.
- Review and maintain core investment funds within retirement plans for ongoing suitability.
- Manage Investment Committee and Participant Education requirements in collaboration with the team.
- Evaluate plan benchmarking, fee analysis, and periodic fund menu reviews performed by team members or third-party advisors, ensuring competitive, compliant results and providing actionable recommendations.
- Serve as a co-fiduciary and document plan decisions to mitigate sponsor liability and uphold regulatory standards.
- Advise clients on plan design optimization such as auto-enrollment, auto-escalation, Roth adoption, and eligibility changes, adapting to evolving workforce needs.
- Provide input for financial wellness programs, employee engagement initiatives, and participant communications to enhance retirement outcomes, collaborating as needed with colleagues or external partners.
- Understand payroll integration, vendor contracts, and the roles of service providers (recordkeepers, TPAs, auditors) to improve and streamline client experience.
- Use technology (e.g., plan dashboards, apps, wellness platforms) for reporting and analytics on plan health, participation, and retirement readiness.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications in response to regulatory and industry changes.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of five years of experience acquiring new retirement plan clients and providing ongoing consulting, administration, or service support.
- Active Series 65 license (Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination), or the ability to obtain it within an agreed-upon timeframe if permitted by the role.
Preferred Qualifications (optional if applicable)
- CPFA®, AIF®, C(k)P®, CEBS®, QKA®, or other retirement plan-related designation.
- Experience working within an independent RIA or institutional retirement plan consulting practice.
- Experience with CRM platforms and retirement plan recordkeeping systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience preparing retirement plan proposals and supporting presentation materials.
- Skilled in delivering professional presentations to prospective and existing clients.
- Ability to conduct prospect research and collaborate with team members throughout the business development process.
- Experience developing and delivering participant education programs.
- Ability to coordinate plan implementations and manage conversion timelines.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail in maintaining CRM and client records.
- Knowledge of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans and ongoing plan oversight.
- Experience supporting investment committee meetings, fiduciary reviews, and participant education initiatives.
- Understanding of benchmarking, fee analysis, investment reviews, and fiduciary best practices.
- Working knowledge of ERISA, IRS, Department of Labor, and SECURE Act regulations.
- Familiarity with retirement plan design strategies and evolving workforce benefit trends.
- Proficiency with retirement plan analytics, reporting tools, and technology platforms.
